Create a Grammar Assignment

To get started with creating a grammar assignment, log into your SpanishDictionary.com account and click "Classrooms" at the top of the page (may need to click the three dots to find it). On the Classrooms page, you can either click the "Create Assignment" button in the top right corner or click on the class name to open the dashboard for the class.

If you click the name of the class, you'll see a "Create Assignment" button when the "Assignments" tab is selected on the left side of the page.

After clicking one of these "Create Assignment" buttons, click the type of assignment that you want to create. We'll go through the steps to create a grammar assignment. See this article for help with creating a vocabulary assignment: How to Create a Vocabulary Assignment

After selecting "Grammar", you will see a list of the grammar skills (topics) for which we offer interactive lessons.

The first skill (topic) at the top will be automatically expanded to show all of the lessons contained within that skill. You can close it by clicking the title. Click any title on the page to expand the corresponding section and view all of the lessons contained within that skill. You can also use the search bar at the top of the page to look for a specific topic. If you want to assign an entire skill, check the box next to the skill name (e.g., "Ser vs. Estar") to select all of the lessons at once.

If you want to know what a lesson contains before assigning it, then after expanding a skill to view all available lessons, you can hover your mouse over a numbered lesson to reveal a "Preview" button.

Clicking that button will open a sidebar that shows samples of the text that is included in each part of the lesson, including "explainer" slides that introduce elements of the skill and multiple-choice and open-input practice slides.

Some grammar lessons contain explainer videos that teach the topic in a step-by-step fashion before having students practice the concept with conversational videos. Some lessons do not contain these explainer videos. If you assign a lesson/skill that does not have explainer videos (e.g., Verbs Like Gustar), students can click the page icon in the top right corner of the lesson to see a written explanation of the topic.

You can click "Try Lesson" at the top of that sidebar to open the lesson.

When you're done previewing the lesson, click the X in the top left corner to return to the assignment-creation page. Once you've selected the lesson(s) that you want to assign, click the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page.

You'll then be able to modify the start and end dates/times of the assignments, check the box(es) for the class(es) you want to assign these lessons to, and then click the "Create X Assignment(s)" button at the bottom of the page.

You'll then see a confirmation message at the bottom of the page that says "Your assignment was created".

How to Notify Students

For Classes Created on SpanishDictionary.com

After creating an assignment for a class made on SpanishDictionary.com (not a Google Classroom class), you will see a "Copy link" button that you can click. You can then paste that link into an email, messaging app, or LMS (Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.) to send to students. Students will then need to click that link to access the assignment.

For Google Classroom Classes

If you created an assignment for a class from Google Classroom, you'll be routed back to the main Classrooms page after finishing the assignment-creation process. Once the start date/time passes, students will see a message appear in the class "Stream" and the "Coursework" tab in Google Classroom.

They can then click the notification to open it and then click the SpanishDictionary.com link to access the assignment.

For Google Classroom and SpanishDictionary.com Classes

After creating an assignment, you can also navigate to the Classrooms page, click into the class for which you made the assignment, and then click on the ellipsis to the right of the assignment. A small menu will appear where you can click "Share assignment link".

You can then either share the link on Remind or click the "Copy link" button to copy the link and then paste that link into an email, messaging app, or LMS (Google Classroom, Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.). Students will then need to click that link to access the assignment.

You can also tell students that there is a new assignment on SpanishDictionary.com and instruct them to log into their SpanishDictionary.com accounts, click the three dots followed by "Classrooms" at the top of the page, click on their class, and then click on the title of the assignment to open it.
