The Leaderboard
- What is the Leaderboard?
SpanishDictionary.com’s Leaderboard is a weekly competition that allows learners to challenge themselves and other learners by answering questions correctly. The Leaderboard is accessible across all learning experiences, including lessons, quizzes, drills, Jump Ahead tests, and Classrooms assignments. The Leaderboard appears in three key areas:
1. The Header: After a correct question is answered, you will see one point added to the "points earned" component in the header of all learning experiences.
2. Your Weekly Standings: Hovering over your “points earned” reveals your weekly standings, providing a quick view of the points you’ve earned and your ranking.
3. Relative Leaderboard: Upon completing a learning experience (lesson, quiz, drill, Jump Ahead test, or Classrooms assignment), the weekly relative leaderboard is shown. This dynamic leaderboard features five user positions at a time, with two users listed above and below your current position.
- How do I opt in or out of the Leaderboard?
To opt in or out of Leaderboards, open SpanishDictionary.com, sign into your account, click on the profile circle at the top of the page, and then select "Settings."
Once on the “Settings” page, scroll down to the “Leaderboard” section.
You can opt in or out of the Leaderboard by clicking the toggle beside “Participate in the Leaderboard.”
If opting out, you will see a message at the bottom of the screen that says “You have been successfully removed from the Leaderboard.”
If opting in, you will see a message at the bottom of the screen that says “You have been successfully added to the Leaderboard!”
- How do I change my display name?
Your representation on the Leaderboard is determined by your display name, which is different from your username.
To change your display name, open SpanishDictionary.com, sign into your account, click on the profile circle at the top of the page, and then select "Settings."
Once on the “Settings” page, scroll down to the “Leaderboard” section.
If you would like a new display name, clicking “Shuffle” will allow you to discover a random new name that suits your style.
- For privacy reasons, we do not allow users to write their own user names.
- If you click "Shuffle" to choose a new display name, you will lose your current display name! If you like your current display name and don't want to lose it, don't press "Shuffle"! 😊
- How does the Leaderboard affect my streak?
The Leaderboard is separate from your streak, but if you complete a question correctly in a lesson, quiz, drill, test, or assignment, this will be reflected in the Leaderboard and extend your streak.
- What if I am not seeing my points?
The Leaderboard is dynamic, and in certain situations, you may encounter a loading state. However, it's important to note that even during this state, your points are still accumulating.
- What if I am offline?
If you are a Premium user enjoying the flexibility of learning vocabulary offline on your iPhone or iPad, rest assured that you will continue to accumulate points even when offline. Your accumulated points will be reflected on the Leaderboard once you reconnect to the internet.
